Live-Streaming Beginner Yin

This 2-week series is actually part of my 4-week live-streaming Beginner Yoga Series. The first two classes were an introduction to Hatha Yoga. The final two classes are an introduction to Yin Yoga. ♥ There will also be a taste of Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation) at the end of the final class.
These final two classes in the series will provide a gentle introduction to basic yin yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation practices in a supportive environment. Focus will be on learning proper (safe) modifications, use of props, and developing body/mind awareness.
Yin yoga is therapeutic practice. Known as “the quiet yoga,” it consists of long, passive holds in floor postures, infused with meditation. There are no sun salutations or standing postures. Physically, yin yoga targets our joints and connective tissue, helping to maintain and restore joint mobility and range of motion, generally resulting in decreased pain. Through meditation, it helps us to quiet our minds and decrease anxiety. Yin yoga is beneficial for all body types and all levels -- including beginners, seniors, and people with existing joint issues and injuries. For active bodies, it helps loosen tight muscles and teaches the art of relaxation and surrender. For less active bodies, it provides a gentle introduction to yoga and body awareness.

Kim Nixon is passionate about sharing the healing benefits of bodywork, gentle movement, meditation, and breathwork. She truly believes that yoga is for EVERY body and reflects that in her teaching style. Kim describes yoga as “powerful medicine.” Kim has been practicing yoga for 14 years, practicing Reiki since 2007, practicing massage since 2009, and teaching yoga since 2012. She considers Yin Yoga to be her "specialty." Kim has a 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher certification, is a licensed massage therapist, a Master level Reiki practitioner, and is currently pursuing advanced studies in Yin Yoga.

- a yoga mat
- a yoga block
- a blanket or two
- a bath or beach towel
- a yoga bolster (or substitute a couple of bed pillows or throw pillows)
